Bryophytes possess limited levels of morphological and anatomical complexity and low capacity of self-internal regulation (poikilohydry). Yet they are extremely resilient plants that can tolerate a wide variety of abiotic stresses, including heavy metal toxicity. With BRYOMICS we are trying to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the existence of phenotypic variation for heavy metal tolerance and hyperaccumulation in bryophytes.
